Configuring your WiFi router to work for your Deebot
Ecovacs robots only supports 2.4GHz wireless networks. Unfortunately, they do not support the 5GHz wireless networks. However, if you think you only have 5GHz wifi - there is an excellent chance your wifi router is also broadcasting at 2.4Ghz.
The following will help you make sure your wireless router works with your Deebot:
- Depending on the WiFi router model, there are a couple of different ways to tell if your router is dual band. The best way is to look up your router’s model on the manufacturer’s website. Some wireless routers even have dual band written on the router itself or on the packaging that it came in.
- Another way to tell, without looking up your wireless router model, is to look at your WiFi network’s name. Your WiFi router may be broadcasting two networks, with different names to indicate the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. This is a good sign that you have a dual band router. Each router will name the 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bands differently, but you can generally tell just by looking. For instance, the 5GHz network may have 5, 5G, or 5GHz as part of its name. The other may have 2, 2.4G or 2.4GHz as part of its name. So if you’ve named your WiFi network “Home”, you might see Home5 and Home2 in the list of available wireless networks.
- It’s also possible that your router is a dual band wireless router that is currently set to broadcast only in one band, meaning that you will only see one network name. Seeing one network name doesn’t necessarily mean that your router isn’t dual band. You need to check your router’s manual or the support section of their web site to be sure.
- If your router is dual band, the manual or web site will have instructions for how to set it to broadcast on both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.

For our super tech savvy folks, here are some more nuanced requirements:
-
Radio Mode = 2.4 GHz or 2.4/5 GHz Mixed Network
-
You are not using a VPN (Virtual Private Network) or Proxy Server.
-
Your router does not have Wi-Fi Isolation enabled. Some “guest” networks have this setting as a default.
-
Your router supports IPv4.
-
Protocol = N (B/G) Compatible
-
Channel width is set to 20 MHz or “auto.”
-
Robots purchased in North America will only communicate with routers broadcasting on channels 1-11. Robots purchased outside North America are compatible with channels 1-13.
-
If you are using a network extender/repeater, the network name (SSID) and password are the same as your primary network.
-
If you are using a 2.4/5 GHz mixed network, make sure your mobile device is connected to a 2.4 GHz network at the beginning of the setup process
-
If your device is automatically switching back to the 5 GHz network during setup, your mobile device may need to forget the 5 GHz network. You can rejoin that network after setup - and never have to go back to the 2.4 GHz again.
-
If you are using a 2.4/5 GHz mixed router and you have not set up a 2.4 GHz network, please set up the 2.4 GHz network to connect your robot. Access your router's administrator screen. Type in the IP address of your router in an internet browser window. To locate the IP of your router, please refer to your router's documentation or this list of common router IP addresses.
For additional support on setting up your network, please review your router's documentation or contact your router's manufacturer.
